We are happy to have Sharon Varney join our Salem Central School District family as our new Pre-K-6 Principal. Sharon comes to us from the Glens Falls City School District, where she worked for the past 16 years as a fifth and sixth grade teacher, dean of students for grades five through eight, and an interim assistant principal.

“My favorite part about working in Salem so far is the sense of community at the school,” said Mrs. Varney. “The staff and students have really made me feel at home. They’ve even given me local tips, like going to Sheldon Farms – their pies are amazing! Overall, the town has a peaceful and beautiful feel, and I’m excited to get to know all of the students and families here.”

Mrs. Varney received her bachelor’s degree from Russell Sage College and master’s degree in elementary education from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. She also holds certifications in School Building Leadership and District Leadership.

In her free time, Mrs. Varney loves spending time with her husband, Mike, and their three children at their family home in Queensbury. The couple has two sons, Matt and Mike, one daughter, Cassie, and a Labrador named Grace.
