The 2009-2010 ninth grade President’s Education Award winners have been announced at Salem Washington Academy. The President’s Education Awards Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, in partnership with the National Association of Elementary and Secondary Principals. The program was developed to recognize and honor students who have achieved high academic goals through hard work and dedication to learning.
To be eligible for The President’s Award for Educational Excellence students must earn a 90+ grade point average for grades 7, 8, and the fall of grade 9 as well as high achievement on the reading or math New York State assessments. This year’s winners of the Educational Excellence Award are: Jessica Batchelder, Zoe Borghard, Taylor Brandt, Justin Capuano, Hannah DeGarmo, Jacqueline Halachik, Nicholas Hersey, Amber Johnson, William Linendoll, Kathryn Myler, Benjamin Phillips, Arden Rishell, and Aaron Trybendis.
The purpose of the President’s Award for Educational Achievement is to recognize students that show outstanding educational growth, improvement, commitment or intellectual development in their academic subjects. This year’s winners of the Educational Achievement Award are: Jillian Borntraeger, Jana Broderick, Austin Evans, Meghan Snowball, Oliver Thomas-Roberts, and Anthony VanDyk.
A reception was held in the high school library in order to honor these students and their parents. Students were presented with certificates and enjoyed some light refreshments.
