At 1:45 am, on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, The Salem Central School District was informed of a potential threat to the school. The Washington County Sheriff's department immediately investigated the issue and determined there was no credible threat to the safety of our staff and students. The issue was resolved early this morning. The threat was made over social media by an individual out of state and not in our region.

The safety of our students and staff are our highest priority. The district initiated a two-hour delay as a precautionary measure to allow the Sheriff's department to continue to work the investigation and to ensure the safety of faculty, staff, and students.

The school will return to regular operations after the delay. All afternoon bus runs and extracurricular activities will proceed as normal.

We thank the Washington County Sheriff's department for their diligent work with the investigation of this incident and their vigilance for keeping the students of our school safe.  We understand in this day and age of social media that messages have been posted prior to us contacting you. It is important to us that the community is given the most accurate information possible.

If parents have any concerns please call the main office.
