This is the image for the news article titled Fire Safety DayWe'd like to thank the Salem Volunteer Fire Department for coming out to teach our kids the importance of fire safety.

Local first responders and firemen visited Salem Central to teach our elementary students the importance of fire safety. The first responders visited each classroom to explain their jobs and answer questions. Afterwards, students lined up outside and talked one-on-one with the firemen and EMTs, practiced a bus-safety drill, and learned first-hand how to react when an emergency hits.

Far beyond “stop, drop, and roll,” students headed to our blue barn to experience a building fire simulation. With fog machines mimicking smoke from a fire, students were asked to test the door to feel if there is heat behind it and crawl safely through the smoke to the other side.
Younger students went through a “fire safety obstacle course” to learn how to stay calm and coordinated in a difficult situation.
