Good afternoon, based upon a recent request by the Governor Cuomo's office, SUNY Adirondack, Queensbury Union Free School District and the WSWHE BOCES have partnered  to set up a meeting with the Cuomo Administration to discuss the new Excelsior Scholarship. The event is for graduating seniors, interested parents and school district guidance counselors and/or principals.
As you know, the Excelsior Scholarship was part of the recent budget, leaving a relatively short timeframe to get the word out about the program. It is important to note that the window to apply for the scholarship is short, July 7 through July 21.   Students who miss this timeline will miss out on the opportunity for the Excelsior Scholarship.  We are working hard to make sure that recent graduates know how to access this program. This may be of increased importance for students who may have yet to make their plans for the Fall, and who may now be considering application to a community college or other SUNY institution.
This event which will be held next Tuesday, June 27 at 5:30 p.m. at SUNY Adirondack.
By way of this message, I am requesting that you try to get the word out to any seniors who might be interested in the meeting, as well as your guidance staff. We are hopeful that guidance counselors will attempt to attend the program, particularly if they need additional information about the program.   I know that Queensbury is planning to use their automated communication system and social media to get word to parents and students.
Interested individuals must RSVP as directed on the flyer.

A college education is increasingly necessary to secure the jobs of tomorrow. New York’s tuition-free degree program, the Excelsior Scholarship, is the first of its kind in the nation. Once fully implemented, the Scholarship will make college possible for hundreds of thousands of students across the state and help to alleviate the crushing burden of student debt.

Please join New York State officials in a discussion to learn more about this new program, its benefits for current and future students and connecting students to jobs after graduation.
