Boys Soccer players, I
hope everyone is enjoying their summer! Enclosed is summer training packet
and other important information for this years’ soccer season. I am eagerly
looking forward to this fall. It is my intent that this letter makes you aware
of how close the beginning of our season really is. As I had mention in the June
meeting for the returning players that physical fitness and condition was to be a
key part of our success this year. I understand that self discipline for
summer work outs and condition can be tough. I have enclosed information that
will assist you in preparation for preseason. Below are some clear expectations
of what is expected of you. 1. Fitness:
(prepare!) The level of physical
fitness you reach on your own will allow for more coaching opportunities in
tactics, field play and ball skill. The lack of this condition will not only
hurt you, but the team as a whole. The more time spent on condition the less
time I have to spend conditioning you. Remember you will be asked to complete: the coopers run of 2 miles
under 14 minutes, run for at least 25min intervals at about 60%, complete one
lap around a soccer field at 100% sprint under a minute and half, and dribble
a soccer ball under control for at least a half mile. 2. Tactics,
field play and ball skill: (Do!!!)
These are three areas that you can target by juggling, small sided games (1v1,
4v4), playing wall ball, going to a soccer camp and getting on a team or
playing in a summer league. 3. Contemplate (think): How can you make this team stronger? What
can you do to benefit the program? What are my strengths? What are my
weaknesses? What skills do I need to work on? What are your personal goals
for the seasons? What should be the team goals for the season? Are you ready
to become part of this team? Are you willing to commit the next three months
to the team? Keep these thoughts in your mind while you train. Be ready to
answer these questions when you arrive for preseason. If
you have any questions please feel free to contact me. I will be seeing you
all August. School Phone:518-854-6000 Email: mmerryman@salemcsd.org |
