Hard at Work!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I hope everyone had a restful and fun filled holiday.  We are back to the routine and working hard.

Fourth graders have started to review and practice the skills needed to be successful on the NY State ELA exam.  The children will be taking the test during the third week of April We would like to ask for your support as we prepare the students for the exam.  Please stress the importance of homework.  All writing assignments should be their best effort.  Proofreading is CRITICAL!  We realize that the continued practice can be tedious, but we also know that the quality practice improves your child’s likelihood for success.

We are finishing Explorer’s and the Age of exploration in S.S we will be studying Colonial Times in Early NY.  We are currently reading Stargone John and will begin reading Toliver’s Secret by Esther Woods Brady.  We are working with Powders and Crystals in Science and working on beginning Chemistry skills.  When that unit is done, we will begin Electrical Circuits.

In Math, we are working on multiplication and long division.  We have really made some gains in our facts and the student’s are noticing a difference.  Please continue to support that at home.  Your child will benefit from the time they put in now.

RECESS!!  We do try to go out daily, unless it gets too cold.  So please have your child dress WARMLY!  Hats, boots, mittens, and snow pants help them to stay warm so they can go out and get some fresh air.

Thanks to everyone who sent gifts and treats for our Holiday Celebration.    It was a wonderful time!
