Texts: Short Stories and
poems – ongoing reading Using a variety of short stories and poems by both traditional and contemporary writers, we will engage in analytical discussions and write compositions addressing the author’s use of plot, character, setting, point of view, symbolism, theme, style, irony, tone, and devices unique to certain styles of poetry (including diction, tone, imagery, metrics). Fiction and Drama We will look at fiction and drama and the elements employed by the novelist and playwright to reveal a work’s meaning. The literary techniques and devices discussed last year will be further analyzed and developed at this time through essays and discussion.
