Welcome
to Home & Career skills Students will open checking accounts in class. They will be used for their paychecks
from the Game of Life.
During the Food and Nutrition unit, the students
will study meal planning and will prepare a healthy breakfast, lunch and
dinner in the food lab. |

Career Report: Students have a
sheet with the requirements for this report. They may choose to do an essay, a
poster or a brochure for this project. Poster should not be larger than 8
½” x 11”.
Students have been given the poster board to use for this purpose.
(Hint: to get all the information to fit on the paper, reduce the font size). Game of Life: A consumer economics activity that is done in
class. There is no homework
related to this activity. Job Shadowing Report: Students have a sheet for parents and guardians
describing the requirements for this report. 8th grade students may
not job shadow on the following date this marking period: 5-25-12 Service
Learning: Students
have a sheet with information about this activity. They are asked to volunteer for at
least 5 hours. It may not be for
family or a money making business.

The Game of Life, a
consumer economics project, is a major part of this course. It usually lasts about six weeks and
is worked on in class. Students are learning about
bank accounts. Each will have a
checking and a savings account to use during this project. Students will receive four paychecks
related to their career of choice.
They will learn how to manage money and pay the bills for one month at
the end of the game. |
