Salem Elementary Art Program

Welcome to the Salem Elementary School Art Page.

As we begin 2012, Sixth grade students are well into their year-long survey of the history of art around the world. We’ve studied prehistoric art, ancient Egyptian art, ancient Greek art and architecture, and now we’re investigating ancient Roman art and architecture.

Fifth grade students have been working on writing and illustrating mini graphic “novels.” Now, they’re beginning a different graphic design unit.

Third and Fourth grade students are well-entrenched in messy papier mache as they make Native American-inspired masks.

Elementary students move through a sequence of projects and topics that build skills and understanding in a logical progression—during the year, and on a grander scope, throughout their years at Salem Washington Academy. Owing to differences in ability and cognitive levels, there is room for adaptation and differentiation within each lesson.
