Mrs. Greene's Elementary Remedial Writing

What's Happening

    CORNCOP2                        Happy Holiday’s

It is hard to believe that we are almost halfway through the school year.  Time sure does fly when you are learning new things.

As we move through the year, our focus in Mrs. Aunchman’s and Mrs. Bourgeois’ class has shifted to writing sight words.  Each child is responsible for writing their sight word (that, my, the, and a) along with the beginning sound or sounds they hear in an object.  For example that bug, we would expect the child to spell that b maybe bg.  In addition, I am still looking for correct letter formation and letter sound recognition.

At this time, Mrs. Keys and Mrs. Parker’s First Graders have been writing sentences about what they are thankful for.  We have been using sequencing words, first, then, next, and finally.  This was also carried over to their basal story too, when they had to write a summary of what happened first, next etc.  As always, we are continuing to work on stretching out all the sounds that we hear so they can write them while encouraging proper letter formation and spacing.

Mrs. Roger’s and Mrs. Stokem’s class has been busy with thankful paragraphs.  Each child had to pick a person and write detailed sentences as to why they were thankful for that person.    Again our focus has been on sentence structure, organization and on how to add descriptive details.

I also work with small groups of children in Grades 2-6 in a specialized reading program called The Wilson Program.  This program focuses on how to decode (sound out) and encode (write out) words.  It is a 12 book program with a focus on reading, writing, and reading fluency.  We have been busy working on fluency and vocabulary while reading stories about Bengal Tigers, Gigantic Toads, Chocolate Factories in Ecuador, and the Mysterious Web.

If at any time you have any questions, my door is always open and I would love for you to come see me.  I am now located in the Middle Grade Building –upstairs next to Mrs. Payne’s room.  (The old Art room.)
