Message from Superintendent Adams

Dear SWA Parents / Guardians:

The district has been made aware of several false reports being directed at school districts locally and throughout the state. These false reports are referred to as “SWATTING.”

If you are not aware, “SWATTING” is a criminal harassment tactic of deceiving an emergency service into sending police or emergency service personnel to another address. In most cases, the reporter issues a false claim of a serious law enforcement emergency (i.e. bomb threat, murder, hostage situation, homicide, or a false report of a mental health emergency).

The school districts in Washington County are working with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police and will treat every threat in compliance with the district’s safety and security policies and under the direction of our law enforcement personnel. The district appreciates our partnership with our law enforcement agencies.

The Salem Central School District is committed to ensuring the safety of students, staff and everyone entering our building.  Should you receive any information about this that you believe requires immediate action, please call 911 to report it. If you have information that you believe we should be aware of, please contact your child’s building principal or me as soon as possible. In the meantime, we will continue to keep you updated with any information that we receive.

Sincerely,

Julie A. Adams

Superintendent of Schools
