5th & 6th Grade Students Compete in School Spelling Bee
On Friday, May 6, twenty-five 5th and 6th grade students competed in the school’s spelling bee, organized and hosted by members of the National Honor Society (NHS).
The competitors were:
6th Grade
Mrs. Flint’s students: Jacob Armstrong, Sophia Pená, Benjamin Ridler, Madison Snow, Sylvia Stewart
Mrs. Frolish’s students: Cooper Crowding, Annabelle Haight, Ryan Hodgkinson, Jayce Palmer, Colvin Pollock
Mrs. Washburn’s students: Natalie Castillo, Brooke Dickinson, Robert Hamblin, Sawyer Saddlemire, Ellie Williams
5th Grade
Mr. Merryman’s students: Austin Coburn, Cora Hodgkinson, Maggie Patrick, Christian Quartararo, Henry Rishell
Mr. LeBlanc’s students: Kiara Ayers, Ryan Coburn, Ethan Dunham, William Ridler, Samuel Russo
NHS president Aiden Gillis welcomed guests and explained the spelling bee rules. He and NHS member Gabe Gallagher traded duties in delivering the contest words to the contestants. After battling nine rounds, Benjamin Ridler emerged as the winner upon spelling “magazine” correctly. Benjamin will represent Salem Washington Academy in the WSWHE BOCES Regional Spelling Bee to be held Wednesday, June 1, at 7 p.m. at the WSWHE BOCES Conference.
Congratulations to runner up Annabelle Haight, and Brooke Dickinson for placing third.
