Meet the Coaches Night

Salem High School will be holding a Meet the Coaches night for all winter sports on Tuesday November 4, 2014 at 6:00 in the school’s auditorium.  Parents and athletes will have the opportunity to meet and talk with the coaches about the upcoming season at the Varsity, JV, and Modified levels.  Salem’s winter sports include boys and girls basketball, wrestling, and cheerleading.  The night will include a short presentation by the school’s Athletic Director, William Moore, about the requirements each athlete must meet in order to participate in a winter sport.  If you have any questions you can email William Moore at

On Monday, November 10, 2014, Salem Washington Academy will be hosting its fourth annual Veterans’ Day Assembly.  This year, one of the speakers will be from Operation Adopt-a-Soldier, explaining their mission.  In conjunction with this featured speaker, we will be collecting donations.  Attached is a list of items which are needed, as well as information about monetary donations.  We will have collection boxes in the school for the donated items, and these will be presented to the Operation Adopt-a-Soldier representative that day.  Please read the list and donate anything you can. If you prefer to make a monetary contribution through the school, donations can be handed to your child’s teacher.  Members of our military risk their lives daily to provide and to maintain the freedoms we enjoy in this country.  Please find it in your heart to thank them by donating to this worthy cause.

Salem Area Youth Association Ski and Snowboard Club

For students in Grades 6 – 12

All students in grades 6 – 12 are invited to join the SAYA ski and snowboard Club.  The cost is $165 (checks can be made out to Willard Mountain) for the 6 week program that includes lift, lessons and rental or $130 if you have your own equipment.  There will be a price increase after November 25th so get your application and money in early.  After 11/25, price increases $20.  Helmets are not included in the equipment rental price but can be rented for all 6 weeks for just $30. There is also a separate $20 charge per person to help pay for the cost of the bus (cash or check made out to Salem Area Youth Association).   The program takes place on Thursdays beginning January 8th, weather permitting. We will be leaving from school at approximately 3:30pm and will be returning around 9pm. All participants are encouraged to go to Willard to be fitted for equipment and to have their photo taken prior to the start of the program.  This will allow students to make good use of the first week for skiing and not waste time standing in line to take care of paperwork.  Fittings can be done on Sat. or Sundays beginning mid-October from 10am -4pm.  Applications are available in the guidance office and should be returned to the guidance office when completed.
