On the afternoon of November 14, 2023, twelve new members were inducted into the Salem Washington Academy Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) in a ceremony held at the school.
NHS president Taryn Gillis welcomed guests, followed by opening remarks from Jr./Sr. High School Principal Sean Graney. NHS treasurer Isabella Garrison then introduced keynote speaker, Mrs. Lori Stokem. Inductee Luke Miner performed “Prelude in C Major” by J.S. Bach.
At the start of the tapping ceremony NHS member Ethan Hickland explained the selection process. Sierra Phillips, Joshua Harrington, Uta Nagai, and Evan Hunter introduced the pillars of the society in respective order; scholarship, leadership, character, and service.
The new members were then introduced. They are: Ethan Adams, Socrates Fronhofer II, Alyssa Groesbeck, Mason Hayward, Magnolia Hoge, Reagan Jackson, Sophia Keays, Hunter Kenyon, Anna Maxwell, Luke Miner, Eden Patrick, and Patrick Sartell.
Following the ceremony, families were invited to a reception held in the High School Library organized by Mrs. Laura LeBlanc and Mr. Randy North.
NHS advisors Mrs. Carol McPhee and Mrs. Vicki Perkins give special thanks to Mr. Zachary Eastman for coordinating the music, curtains, light and sound; and to ushers Mr. Robert Carr, Ms. Anna Courtney, Mrs. Laura Fronhofer, Mr. James Howenstein , and Mr. Jason LeSelva.
