“I practice mostly every night, even if I am just listening to the songs,” said Jaxsen Hunt, a freshman at Salem Jr/Sr High School.

Hunt plays Adam in the high school drama club’s winter musical, “Freaky Friday”.  The club will host three public performances in December. Evening shows are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, and Saturday, Dec. 6. A matinee will follow on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door with prices set at $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

“It's amazing watching our students grow, both during the production and from year to year. Their confidence slowly builds, said Zach Eastman, one of the advisors for the club.

“This year we have a great group of students who have been one of the best we have ever had in terms of collaboration and teamwork. Regardless of age or grade level, they pull each other aside and work on dances and lines.”

Over 60 club members have come together to build sets, design costumes, and memorize the lines and choreography needed to deliver their best performance. The drama club has been preparing for the production since auditions were held in September.

“We practice about every day Monday through Thursday from 3:15 to 5 p.m., and sometimes on Friday or Saturday,” said Ryan Coburn, a freshman who has been with the club since sixth grade.

Based on the Disney film, “Freaky Friday” follows a mother and her teenage daughter who swap bodies and work to reverse the curse while gaining a deeper understanding of each other and the bond that holds their family together.

“I love the preshow nerves, you get nervous but you know you know exactly what you're doing, so you aren’t nervous anymore,” Coburn said.
