Excitement is building in the Salem Central School District auditorium as the sixth grade drama club gears up to time travel through some of music’s most memorable moments during its March production of “Jukebox Time Machine.”
“‘Jukebox Time Machine’ is about music history. Music history is important and fun to learn about,” said sixth grader Damien Fancett, who plays a time period narrator in the performance.
Blending music and history, the play brings students on a time-traveling adventure as they explore and perform iconic songs spanning the 1930s through the 2000s.
“My favorite song we will perform in the play is ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ cause it is so fun to sing, and most people already know the words so it is very catchy,” said sixth grader Winter Nagai.
During their travels, the jukebox time machine teaches the visitors about the time periods that shaped our favorite tunes. While performing the hits, the cast and crew hope the audience will join in by singing along.
“My favorite is a clear tie between ‘Music, Music, Music’ and ‘Don’t Stop Believing.’ ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ is one of the songs my mom grew up on,” said 6th grader Rees Williams.
The drama club will perform on Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7, both beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door, and children under two years old are admitted free.
