Student-athletes at Salem Central School District continue to shine both in the classroom and in competition. This winter, three Salem teams earned the prestigious New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Winter Scholar-Athlete Team recognition, and several individual athletes were celebrated for their academic achievements.

To qualify as a Winter Scholar-Athlete Team and receive a NYSPHSAA certificate, at least 75% of a team’s roster must hold a combined average GPA of 90 or above. Salem’s Varsity Boys Basketball, Varsity Girls Basketball, and the Salem-Cambridge merged Varsity Girls Wrestling team all exceeded this high bar.

Participation in athletics helps build discipline, resilience, and the habits that support academic success. Alongside the team awards, many Salem student-athletes were also named individual Winter Scholar-Athletes by NYSPHSAA.

Salem Central School District proudly congratulates all of our student-athletes who continue to demonstrate excellence while balancing the demands of both academics and athletics.
