The Salem Central School District music department is striking a high note as students prepare for the much-anticipated Junior and Senior Pops Concerts. These lively evenings of music, desserts, and community spirit promise to showcase the incredible talent in the district’s music program.
Unlike traditional band and choral concerts, the Pops Concerts feature pop and rock songs.
“During the Pops Concert, we perform popular music you hear on the radio instead of the typical band literature. The Senior Band will also perform selections from Broadway shows,” said music teacher Zach Eastman.
The Junior High Pops Concert will take place on March 10 at 7 p.m. in the school’s auditorium, featuring performances by Junior Chorus, Junior Band, and a variety of small group and solo acts prepared independently by students.
The Senior High Pops Concert will be held on March 11th, also beginning at 7 p.m. in the school’s auditorium, and will spotlight small group and solo performances, Jazz Band, Senior Band, and Senior Chorus.
Both evenings are designed to create a fun, cabaret-style atmosphere. For just $5 admission at the door, guests will enjoy an entertaining night of music and a sweet treat, brownie sundaes at the Junior High concert and pie with ice cream at the Senior High concert. Proceeds from the concerts directly support the district’s music program.
“We use those funds to support scholarships for higher learning or pay fees for students to play in festivals in the area. The funds also go towards updating percussion equipment, buying repair supplies, and purchasing music,” said Eastman.
