Meeting Today’s Needs, Building Tomorrow’s Future: 2026-27 budget proposal

With the community’s approval of the Salem Central School District’s 2025–26 budget, the district has strengthened its financial position and made meaningful progress toward its long-term financial goals. The steps taken to reduce the budget gap last year contributed to a year-end fund balance that exceeded the benchmark outlined in the plan, reflecting this positive momentum.

The proposed 2026-27 budget builds on this stability by maintaining all programs and staff levels while leveraging state aid opportunities to make targeted investments. These include expanding unified athletic offerings, adding a second Pre-K classroom, accommodating all Salem students who request enrollment in Career and Technical Education (CTE) skilled trades programs, and increasing capacity to support students with special needs.

The Salem CSD Board of Education and administrative team have worked collaboratively to develop a budget that is both fiscally responsible to the taxpayers and compatible with the evolving needs of our students. The district is proposing a 2026-27 budget of $17,870,287 to continue to focus on the goals outlined in its long range plan. This strategic focus directly aligns with achieving our mission of Every Student Future Ready.

In collaboration with the district’s new business administrator, Mr. Bill Brown, the district has identified several opportunities to secure additional state aid and grants, helping to reduce the financial burden on the local taxpayer.

Our Board of Education, administration, faculty, and staff remain committed to upholding high educational standards while honoring the rich history, traditions, and values that are deeply rooted in our community. The proposed budget would enable us to prepare all students for the ever-evolving future by providing them with unique opportunities to pursue their goals and dreams at SWA.
