Salem Central School District has appointed Mark Doody as interim Jr./Sr. High School principal while the district searches for a permanent school leader. With an established history in school administration, previous experience serving Salem CSD as interim superintendent, and a strong record of interim leadership throughout the region, Doody brings experience and familiarity to the role during this period of transition.

“I enjoy working with the staff here. There are really terrific educators and students at Salem, and it is my goal to provide them with experienced leadership that can be calming during this transition,” said Doody.

Doody brings more than 30 years of experience in school administration. He spent over 20 years with Hudson Falls Central School District, where he served as the high school principal before being appointed superintendent of schools. He retired from that position in 2015 and has since served in 14 interim leadership roles. His experience includes interim high school principal positions with Granville CSD and Schuylerville CSD, as well as serving as interim superintendent of Salem CSD during the 2021-2022 school year.

His personal connections to the community and familiarity with the district further strengthen his commitment to supporting the school during this transition.

“I had not taken on an interim position for this year, then I got a call from Mrs. Collier about the opening. I have relatives over here, and I used to spend a lot of time here in Salem so there has always been a connection to Salem for me,” said Doody.

In his role, Doody will focus on supporting the work of teachers and staff, strengthening school processes and procedures, and helping maintain a positive, supportive environment where students can learn and succeed. He also hopes to build a strong foundation for the next permanent principal, helping ensure a smooth transition and a clear path forward for the school community.

“Mark Doody has a proven record of success in the interim positions he has held,” said Salem CSD Superintendent Julie A. Collier. “I am confident that he will help strengthen the processes and procedures within the Jr./Sr. High School so that when a permanent principal is selected, they can hit the ground running.”

Salem CSD will continue its search for a permanent, full-time Jr./Sr. High School principal. As the process moves forward, the district is committed to engaging key stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members, in selecting the school’s next leader.
