We are 100 days smarter! To celebrate, our students created crafts and participated in a scavenger hunt to find 100 pictures of Elementary School Principal Mr. Switzer around the school.
The tradition of celebrating 100 days was started to help students grasp the concept of the number 100. It also serves as a time to reflect on how much progress we've made since the start of the school year. From learning to read to exploring career choices, our students have grown in many ways, making decisions that will empower them to achieve their goals and dreams.

The School's Cool Book Bag Program for PreK and Kindergarten launched this month! Our students were thrilled to receive their first bags filled with books to enjoy with their families, either by listening or reading together. Each month, new books will be added to the bags to keep the excitement for reading alive. Parents, if you have a child in PreK or Kindergarten, we encourage you to share the joy of reading with them! Your involvement is key in helping your child develop a lifelong passion for reading.

Thank you to all our community members who joined us for the Winter Carnival, hosted by the Salem Washington Academy Classes of 2028 and 2027! We had a great time playing games, sampling delicious treats, and connecting with students and alumni from all generations of SWA. It’s always such a pleasure to welcome the community into our school and create memories together!

We have reached the end of our month of READ for Ronald McDonald House Charities. During this time, our team raised over $2,000, which will help provide essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing when children require healthcare. This important work is made possible through donations and the dedication of volunteers who assist families facing a medical crisis.
Participants, please return your envelopes and donations to Mrs. Junco so we can send them to Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Congratulations to our 24 students whose short stories were selected by the Young Writers program to appear in their upcoming publication, Fright Club: Nightmare Tales! The Young Writers program received over 50,000 entries for the contest.
In October, students both in and out of Ms. Corr’s class worked with her to create their submissions. We are proud of our students for the hard work they put into their stories—it paid off! The publication will be hitting the shelves at the end of April.

The annual READ fundraiser to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities programs is kicking off this Wednesday! Salem CSD students are invited to help raise money by simply reading!
Here’s how it works: students can ask friends, family, and community members to pledge a certain amount for the time they spend reading throughout the fundraiser. Each day, students will track their reading time and collect pledges based on their total at the end of the month. Today is the day! ParentSquare is now the official source of school-to-home communication in the Salem Central School District.

You may have heard recently that ParentSquare will become the primary source of district, school, grade level and classroom communications at Salem Central School District on Monday, January 6th. This means SchoolMessenger, Apptegy, and Thrillshare Rooms will no longer be active when students return to school from holiday break. We will be sharing messages using only ParentSquare.
If you have not yet had the opportunity to explore ParentSquare, I encourage you to check your email for instructions to activate your account and sign in for the first time. You may choose to use a computer or the free ParentSquare app on your smartphone to access the platform.
If you are looking for more information about ParentSquare, please visit our district website, www.salemcsd.org. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email helpdesk@salemcsd.org or call the Main Office at (518) 854-6000 for help.
We look forward to communicating with you through ParentSquare!

Support a great cause with beautiful flowers! The Backpack Program at Salem CSD has been selected as a nonprofit partner in the Hannaford Bloomin' 4 Good Program Program for January 2025. The Backpack Program provides students experiencing food insecurity with nutritious meals and snacks when school meals are unavailable and is fully funded by donations.
For every specially marked Bloomin’ 4 Good bouquet sold at the Hannaford in Greenwich (1165 Route 29) during the month of January, the Backpack Program will receive a $1 donation. Your purchase will directly support local students in need, providing them with needed food and resources. Shop for a good cause!

Today marks our last day of school for 2024! We had a week filled with festive fun, dressing up to celebrate the season, welcoming our community into the building for concerts, and working through holiday-themed lessons.
Salem CSD will be on Holiday Break until Monday, January 6th, which will be our first day back. When we return, all district, school, grade level, and classroom communications will be sent through ParentSquare. Our current communication systems SchoolMessenger, Apptegy, and Thrillshare Rooms will be phased out on that date.
You should have received an initial email or text message from ParentSquare inviting you to join. For more information on how to set up your ParentSquare account, please visit: https://www.salemcsd.org/page/about-parentsquare

In our Physics classes, students have been applying the concepts of force and momentum through the Egg Drop challenge! Watch the video here: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1B7f1DtnVh/
Students were tasked with designing a landing craft to protect an egg during its fall from the top of a ladder. Using balloons, cardboard, tape, straws, cotton balls, and other household items, students utilized their understanding of physics to create a safe landing for their eggs.
Over the past few years, students and families from Salem CSD have supported the Ronald McDonald House Charities program through the annual READ fundraiser. We're excited to announce that the fundraiser is returning and will begin after the holiday break!
The local Ronald McDonald House provides essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing when children need healthcare. This vital work is made possible through donations and volunteers, who assist families facing a medical crisis.

Take a peek at some of the creations from our 3rd and 4th grade Lego Club! Our young builders are not only having a blast but also strengthening their problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills as they tackle design challenges. From wild inventions to clever solutions, Lego Club is all about creativity, collaboration, and, most importantly… FUN!
Two of our students have recently been recognized for their leadership abilities and commitment to service. Charlotte Rishell was selected as our HOBY ambassador, and Anna Maxwell was chosen for the DAR Good Citizen Award!
Charlotte was selected from the sophomore class to represent Salem Central School at the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Seminar this spring. The purpose of this seminar is to bring together a select group of high school sophomores who have demonstrated leadership abilities within their school and community to further develop their talents. This program is sponsored by the Salem Area Women's Club.
Anna was named the recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizen Award for her dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. The DAR Good Citizens Program aims to encourage and recognize the qualities of good citizenship. Each year, the staff and students at Salem Central School vote to select a senior who embodies these qualities.
Congratulations to both Charlotte and Anna! We are proud to be represented by you!

Over the weekend, our school hosted the Section 2 NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Freestyle Tournament. This tournament, a new sports offering in New York State, marked the first time Section 2 has provided this opportunity to student-athletes. We were joined by over 100 girls from 12 teams for a day of fierce competition. Thank you to everyone who came together to make this event possible and give our student-athletes the chance to showcase their skills!
Every Salem/Cambridge Wrestling girl who competed won at least one match—keep up the hard work!

Thank you to everyone who came out to see Salem High School's Drama Club performance of Groundhog Day: The Musical this past weekend! The musical numbers added a fun twist to the classic story. We are so proud of our talented students!
